Make Your Own Jewellery Hanger

I know I say this on a fairly regular basis but I think this is one my favourite projects ever! It's certainly up there in terms of actual usefulness and it was so easy to make. I'll tell you how I did it...

You will need a wooden coat hanger, scissors, some push pins (I used white sticky-out ones for the front and metal flat on the back), enough felt to cover the inside bit of the coat hanger, a bit of blue tac and an optional hammer if you wish to save your thumbs from over-exerting themselves.

First I pushed the sticky-out pins into the horizontal part of the coat hanger to make my necklace hooks. After that I trimmed the felt so that it would cover the triangle shape of the coat hanger. I then used the flat push pins to pin the felt to the hanger. (This is the bit I used a hammer for to protect my precious thumbs.)

Finally I hung my hanger up at the edge of my clothes rail and blu-tacked it to the inside edge of the wardrobe so my jewellery wouldn't wobble around too much. I hung my jewellery up and stood back at wonder at my own creative imagination.

What's been your most creative storage solution?

  3. What a fab idea! I'd have to do a complete jewellery sort out though before making one myself, else I'd end up with several jewellery hangers! :-) xx

  7. A very clever idea and all kept neat and saves all the tangling in a box. Not sure what the necklaces get up to but mine are always in a knotted mess

  8. This is one really clever idea, the problem I have is no room left in the wardrobe for clothes let alone jewelry hangers. LOL (no I am not culling my clothes. Thanks for sharing

  9. A brilliant idea! You could also do decoupaged versions which would also be nice for displaying Hewlett at craft fairs.

  10. great idea. everything on display and nothing will get tangled! :)
i agree with the comment above - decoupaging the hangers will make them extra special and they will have a nice feminine touch too
